Chimney Rock Archaeological Area

Open mid-May to the end of September, Chimney Rock explores the history of the ancestral Puebloan Indians who lived in this area over 1,000 years ago. Visit various site ruins and explore the legends of this astro-archeological site. You can also enjoy full moon programs, festivals and special events during the season.

Hours of Operation:
Open May 15 to September 30 Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tours: 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m.

Directions:
Turn south on Hwy 151 from Hwy 160. Travel 3 miles to the site entrance. On Hwy 160 the Hwy 151 turnoff is 17 miles from Pagosa Springs and approximately 43 miles from Durango.

Travel Tips:
The tours are approximately 2.5 hours long. There is about 1 mile of hiking with a 200-ft elevation gain. The upper trail to the Great Kiva is barrier free and unimproved. Water, sturdy shoes, hats and sunscreen are advised. Pets are not permitted on the tours. The lower portion of the tour is handicap accessible. Groups of 10 or more require reservations.
